The garden made in the Mediterranean style is, first of all, one large recreation area, which is a lot of plants placed in ceramic pots, stained with natural stone and small patios, fresh greens, sun -toes and, of course, the abundance of the southern plants. In other words, such a garden combines everything that is associated with people with a vacation on the sea coast.
The main, fundamental zones in the Garden of the Mediterranean type are, undoubtedly, recreation areas. Typically, the role of such a space is played by a terrace on which tables and chairs, armchairs or even sofas are exhibited. The main element of such a terrace is masonry, which is traditionally made of natural stone, however, it is quite acceptable to use terracotta (concrete) tiles, wooden flooring or even ordinary brick. The coloring is most often based on a natural color palette and widely uses ocher and pastel shades.
As green decoration of sites for relaxation, grapes, hops, different flowers and palm trees in pots or tubs are widely used. The emphasis is on giving comfort for such a zone, southern mood.
An important element in the arrangement of recreation areas are also awnings. In the Mediterranean countries, whose climate is dry and hot, they are used to create an additional shadow. In our latitudes, such awnings also play another important function – they protect furniture from possible rain, this is very important if high -quality kitchen furniture is purchased. Examples of such covered areas can be pergoles, green arches, canopies, arbors or even fabric tents.
Another important element inherent in this style is a fairly large amount of water sources, whether it be a pool, a pond, a fountain or a key that beats from the wall. Such elements carry not only a decorative, but also a completely pragmatic function, as they help maintain the necessary humidity, creating a truly marine mood!
The decoration is far from the last role is played by a stone, various types of which are used for paving, terracing, creating stairs and retaining walls. Frequent guests in the garden of this type are traditionally become “ancient” pots and amphoras of different types and sizes that act as a flowerbed, an independent element of the composition or even details of the fountain.
It is important to remember that in our latitudes the southern plants are not comfortable, so it is better to contain them in portable containers.
