In this article, dear reader, you will learn the most important information about this building material. No matter on your purpose of using drywall, it is always important to know what types of this material exist, what qualities each of them has. I propose to get acquainted with more detailed information:
What is this material?
Gypsum cardboard is a finishing material that consists of gypsum and paper on each side, which performs the following functions:
– Protection of gypsum filler from external influences
– The paper acts as a “shock absorber” while you work with it, and also compensates for the internal structure of the gypsum. Therefore, pay enough attention to this aspect.
What are the types of drywall?
1) Plasterboard usual has an abbreviation “GKL”.
It is used when decorating walls, ceilings and separating structures in heated rooms with normal humidity. Using ordinary drywall in rooms with non -standard conditions is extremely not recommended.
2) dry -resistant drywall – vgkl. The protective layer of paper plasterboard is treated with a water -repellent and antiparasitic composition, and the gypsum itself is made using technology to prevent moisture from preventing moisture. This of course does not mean that it can be watered with water – but it has increased resistance to wet air.
It is used in rooms with high humidity.
3) Fireproof drywall – Gllo. Mineral fibers and impregnations are used as part of the drywall of this type, due to which the sheets have increased resistance to heat and fire exposure.
Such drywall, as a rule, is used to finish premises with high fire safety requirements.
What size is drywall?
Here are the typical sizes of drywall sheets:
1) length – 2.5 and 3 meters
2) width – 1.2 meters
3) thickness – 6, 9, 12.5 millimeters.
Keep in mind that when lining the wall, drywall sheets of 12.5 mm wide are used. Use the same thickness of the sheets when lining the ceilings.
How to choose drywall?
– Never buy packaging sheets. They are repeatedly subjected to physical impact during transportation. And even if the price is lower – do not take a cat in a bag – such a sheet will not last long.
– Carefully inspect the integrity of each sheet, especially the corners.
– The protective layer of paper on the sheets should be in perfect condition.
